Michelle, since I left Cooper, I've lost touch, but please know that we are praying for you and your family and would love to keep in touch!! Little Dear Lana:
What a remarkable person you have become even in the few short years you have been with us! Contrary to what many may think, you have been BLESSED with a very special gift. You have accomplished more already in your little life than most of us could ever do in a lifetime! Just look at all the people you have brought together, once complete strangers, but now united in compassion, love, and donations to assist in your challenge. To Lana and Family,
I work at SCE&G with Debbie Areheart. I learned of your special angel and have kept up with Lana's progress for about a year now. (When we did the bake sales and such.) I am so very happy that you found the research center and your outcome is a glorious one.
About 10 years ago, my brother-in-law, Sonny, only 51 at the time, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After the first operation, there was little or no hope. A friend of my husband and I is a PA (Physician's Assistant) in NC. He is very smart and reads all the time and I would trust him with the lives of my beloved family any day. We talked with him and he told us about a research program at NIH in Maryland/DC. Through letters to our US Legislators, my brother-in-law was accepted as a candidate in the research program. He was only the 3rd one to go through this. But he was already in Stage 4 and they could do little to help him. We were with Sonny and my sister during the procedure and it was heart wrenching. We lost him 7 months later. But the really happy part is that the doctor who did the procedure called my sister for 3-4 years afterward several times a year and would relate all the success stories about all the people his research has helped and all because Sonny did what he did. So, I know what wonderful people are there and the miracles they perform.
My prayers have been with you constantly and I will continue to keep you there. When Lana gets stronger, please bring her by SCE&G for us to meet. I, for one, hold a special place in my heart for her and you all!!! You are all truely special and blessed.

I am putting it here because not only do I want you to hear but I want everyone else to read it and know that you are a little angel, a gift from God. You, Lana, are our lovely miracle.

My Daughter Eliza has Cystic Fibrosis so I believe I understand your agony and pain in fighting against the stings and arrows of disease. Remember... the lord WILL heal your daughter... its just a question of when and how. We pray every day for Jesus to heal Eliza... and I will devote special time asking him to heal Lana and her family as well. Remember Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. A POEM FOR LANA
I was walking down the sidewalk at the baseball field today. When I saw a pretty sparrow as it started to fly away. Keeping my eye on the sparrow as it flew across the field, it landed on a fence next to this beautiful little girl.
I could not help but notice her bright and beautiful smile, and the way her eyes lit up when I stopped to sit awhile. Her features were so delicate like a flower in full bloom and her eyes they twinkled like bright stars and a bright moon.
She's delicate like a porcelain doll, one you would handle with much care and her dark beautiful eyes reflect a story waiting there.
Her name is Lana Swancey and she has a rare disease, and with the help of everyone she is sure to be relieved of this burden called Canavan a disease they are trying to cure, so that Lana can live her life the way that God intended her. It took away the movement of her tiny arms and legs. She even has to have help holding up her head.
Her voice is just a whisper a small breath of fresh air. She is waiting in the wings of an angel with much care. We need to band together and give this child a chance to live. She needs to have this treatment. She has so much to give!
The cost is 150,000 and although the fee is high, it will give Lana a chance, one that will allow her not to die.
She has a job on earth one that God needs her to fill. We need to help this little girl to fulfill what God has willed. Send this to your friends, family, church and everyone. She needs to have your prayers and the funds are sure to come.
The next time you see a sparrow, keep your eye on its course. For, I know God sent this sparrow to lead me to his special little source. Lana is a reminder, a gift, with an awesome voice. I heard it loud and clear and know we will all feel rejoice;
For the day Lana comes home from her hospital stay and speaks loud and clear, in her own tiny voice what God wants her to say.
What a day to behold when she can and move her arms and legs, what a day to behold when she holds up her little head. So listen to your heart and give a gift big or small. Lana is a gift, one that continues to inspire us all.

Dear Lana and family,
My husband and I are going through a very simular situation. Our daughter, kaylee, was diagnosed with Pompes disease (acid maltase deficiency disease type II) at the age of 4 months old. We were told the same thing. Just take her home and enjoy her. They have given her 1 year to live also. We were devistated. We have had so many people and churches praying for our little angel. She is a true blessing. We are also working on trying to get her in an experiemental enzyme replacement therepy program at Duke University. We will know if she qualifies in the next week or so. Our baby girls are so special and I know God will take care of them. I wil continue to pray for Lana and I will put her on our prayer list at my church.

granddaughter. Her name is Ashley.
When Ashley was 4-1/2 yrs. old we were told she had
Leukemia. After lots of medicine, she was in remission. God is so good.
About 2 years later, her Leukemia came back and she
had to take lots more medicine and had lots of other
complications. She is now in remission again. She
took her last treatment in Jan. God has used her in
so many ways in her young life just as he is using

Having a grandchild with a lifethreatening medical problem, my prayers are with you. My little Michael was born with a scrambled heart with no hopes of a heart transplant and was told he would not live to be 2 years old. He is now 10, has had 3 open heart surgeries and a little Dennis the Menice. God still performs miracles. He is scheduled to be checked again Sept.18th & we are still believing in miracles. God Bless your precious Lana. I've read some of the other messages and I'm really not sure what to say. Except, I don't pray like people who go to church because I don't know how. But, I still pray in my own way and have had some of my prayers answered. And at times they've gone unanswered because God knew better than I, that what I was asking for, was really not the best for me. So, I will do the very best I can to pray for Lana. And her family and the doctors who treat her. I will also pray that the other people praying for her, that know what words to say, will always have those words to make up for the one's I don't know how to say. I hope that's okay. I do wish however, that I could do more than just pray for her. But, that's the best I can do. I hope that Lana gets better and lives to know her family and the doctors that took care of her. And maybe even meet someday, some of the people who helped in some way for her to get better. Then she will also learn the power of prayer. God Bless you all.

Our daughter Maria passed away Feb 25, 2002 . she was almost 10 months old. We went to the flee market in Columbia and happened to see the fund raiser for Lana. We understand what it's like to have a sick child and were very touched by her story. From time to time we would visit the flee market and get updaated on Lana's progress.
